Warangal: The Telangana state government on Monday sanctioned Rs 4,170 crore for constructing an underground drainage (UGD) system within the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits in Hanamkonda.

In Government Order Rt. No. 573, the government stated that based on proposals submitted by the GWMC commissioner and preliminary estimates prepared by Shubh Consultants and Technocrats LLP, Rs 4,170 crore was approved for implementing a comprehensive UGD scheme in GWMC.

The UGD project will be executed in three phases, encompassing the construction of underground drainage and storm water systems, development of water supply networks, rejuvenation of existing water bodies, aquifer management plans, design and implementation of blue-green infrastructure, and the installation of underground ducts to facilitate essential services such as power, telecom, cable, and internet.

During a celebratory programme held in Hanamkonda, MLAs, MPs, and party leaders thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy by honouring his efforts to advance the city’s infrastructure. They emphasised that the Congress government, under Revanth Reddy’s leadership, is determined to transform Warangal into the second capital city of Telangana. The officials highlighted several ongoing developmental initiatives in the district, noting that the approval of the underground drainage system fulfills the long-held aspiration of Warangal residents.
