Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday took a serious note of the action of police personnel who took a farmer Heerya Naik allegedly involved in the Lagcherla incident to a hospital with handcuffs.

Heerya Naik was lodged in Sangareddy district after he was remanded to judicial custody in connection with the incident. After he developed pain in the chest, the prison's officials rushed him to a hospital with handcuffs.

Revanth Reddy expressed displeasure over the police for Thursday’s handcuffing incident and sought to know the necessity for forcing the farmer to wear handcuffs for going to hospital. Stating that the people’s government would not tolerate such incidents, he asked the senior police officials to probe into it and submit a detailed report.

The police named 46 people as suspects in the incident in which a team of officials, including the Vikarabad district Collector Prateek Jain was attacked along with officials from the revenue department when they had gone to the village to collect public opinion and gather information for the proposed pharma industry last month.

During this process, some villages armed with sticks and stones attacked them. In all, the police arrested 16 persons in connection with the incident.
