Hyderabad: In a second case of food poisoning at the Maganoor Zilla Parishad High School this month, 27 students fell ill on Tuesday after consuming mid-day meals. One of the students was hospitalised in a critical condition.
The incident comes just after Wankidi mandal tribal school C. Shailaja succumbed on Monday, following complications after she suffered food poisoning at her school hostel last month.
The students, who complained of stomach ache and vomiting around 3 pm, were rushed to Makthal Government Hospital for treatment. Due to the unavailability of ambulances, they were taken in cars and other private vehicles.
The Narayanpet district medical and health officer confirmed that 27 students were admitted to the hospital, and 26 of them were in stable condition. One student, whose condition was critical, was shifted to the Mahbubnagar Government Hospital for treatment. Hospital superintendent Dr Sampath Kumar Singh told Deccan Chronicle that the student was in a stable condition.
Five days earlier, 50 students had fallen ill after consuming meals, leading to the suspension of the headmaster and a school assistant.
BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao, in a post on ‘X’ strongly criticised the government for the incident and called for strict action against those responsible for providing adulterated food.
