Hyderabad: The All India Shia Samaj (AISS) on Saturday condemned the recent sectarian violence in Pakistan’s Parachinar district that has left 44 Shia Muslims dead.

The AISS urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to summon Pakistan's ambassador Saad Ahmad Warraich and send a stern message to the Pakistani government through him. In a communique sent to the Prime Minister, AISS convenor Mir Firsath Ali Baqri said ruling parties in Pakistan were supporting groups behind the attacks on Shia community members.
He said the targeted attacks reveal the criminal nature of the Takfiri (Muslims who excommunicate co-religionists) groups.

The systematic destruction of a particular sect is horrific, he said, adding that this is driven by hate, prejudice and a desire for power. Ali Baqri said India must diplomatically isolate Pakistan to ensure the safety of Shia Muslims.

The clashes in Parachinar broke out last week following a land dispute between Shia andSunni groups. The warring tribes announced a ceasefire on Monday. According to reports, pro-Talibani factions used heavy weaponry against Shia Muslims.

Ali Baqri has also written to external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the matter.
