Hyderabad:Telangana BC Students Association expressed dismay at the failure of the government to release Rs 4,000 crore in pending scholarships which, they said, was affecting 14 lakh students who were not able to get certificates and pursue further studies.

The association also sought revision of scholarship amount.

Addressing a meeting at the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on Saturday, association state president Vemula Radhakrishna said the scholarship amount had not been revised for 12 years.. The cost of essential commodities has increased two to three times and low quality food is being served to students. Eggs and fruits have disappeared from the menu. The government is indisposed to providing facilities to students and the situation will not improve if we don’t fight.”

The salaries of employees were increased twice in this period, thrice for ministers and old age pensions had been increased five times, it was pointed out.
