Telangana Braces for Extended Cold Weather
HYDERABAD: Telangana is gearing up for an extended spell of cold weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting below-normal minimum temperatures for two weeks, including chilly Christmas morn. The dip in temperatures, which has already been felt with Adilabad recording a chilly 9.7°C on December 11, signals the arrival of a winter chill that is likely to persist until late December.
The IMD’s latest extended range forecast, covering the period until December 16, suggests that nights and early mornings will remain colder than usual. The state has been experiencing significant variations in wind patterns over the past week, including shifts from easterlies and southeasterlies to southerlies and wouthwesterlies, and finally to northeasterlies. These changes have contributed to the ongoing cooling trend.
This consistent drop in temperatures could impact daily life, particularly for those in agriculture-dependent regions where cold stress may affect crop health. The IMD advised residents to prepare for colder conditions, with warmer clothing and necessary precautions to avoid health risks associated with the cold weather.
As the state sees a colder-than-usual December, the IMD’s next bulletin, scheduled for December 19, is expected to provide more clarity on whether the state’s winter will deepen further.
