Telangana: BRS MLA, Workers Held for Blocking NH
Karimnagar: Tension on Saturday prevailed here when Huzurabad MLA Padi Koushik Reddy along with the beneficiaries of the Dalit Bandhu Scheme (DBS) staged a dharna demanding sanction of money under the second phase of the scheme, at Ambedkar chowrasta in Huzurabad of Karimnagar district.
A large number of people including women and members of Dalit organisations reached the MLA’s house, demanding the government to release the money. They took out a rally from his house to Ambedkar chowrasta and staged a sit-in blocking the NH causing interruptions to vehicular traffic.
Police rushed to the spot and tried to convince the BRS MLA to clear the road. But when the BRS activists started raising slogans against the government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, police tried to forcibly remove the MLA.
A heated argument ensured between the MLA, protestors and the police. The MLA was forcibly shifted to the police station leading to the legislator facing suffocation. He was then shifted to the hospital for treatment.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao condemned the police action, alleging the CM developed personal grudge against Koushik Reddy as the latter questioned the irregularities of the state government.
It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure the health of the public representative who is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The government must release BRS and Dalit workers unconditionally, they demanded.
