Telangana Extends Recovery Limit for Rice Millers

Hyderabad: The civil supplies department has extended the time limit for recovery of custom milled rice (CMR) from default rice millers for a further period of 90 days, following requests from the rice millers association.

The extension was given to the millers who had defaulted on giving CMR in the Yasangi (Rabi) 2019-20 2020-21 and 2021-22 Kharif seasons.

The department has allowed the millers to either pay in the form of cash or an equivalent quantity of rice under state pools with certain conditions. The vice-chairman and managing director of the Telangana Civil Supplies Corporation Limited through the concerned district manager will recover the value of entire defaulted CMR.

The waiving of the penalty is not appealable. The order has ruled out any further extension and added the defaulted value if recovered in the form of kind (rice) shall be delivered under State pool.

The commissioner and MD of the civil supplies corporation have been empowered to initiate criminal action against defaulting millers and all the other concerned, apart from disqualifying and debarring the millers from participating in CMR operations, on failure of recovery, while initiation of RR (Revenue Recovery) Act. They further reserved the right to recover the losses or damages from the default millers as well as from the sureties jointly and severally in accordance with the law. The process will be monitored by the collectors online and report to the CCS.
