Karimnagar: A goods train carrying iron ore from Ballari in Karnataka to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh derailed between Raghavapur and Kannala railway stations on Tuesday night in Peddapalli district.

The train, consisting of 44 wagons, was en route to Kazipet when 11 wagons overturned, damaging the tracks. The loco pilot and guard on the train narrowly escaped without injuries.

Railway authorities used large cranes to remove the overturned wagons and scattered materials. They suggested that the derailment might have been caused by the heavy load.

Several superfast, express, and passenger trains operating on the same route between Kazipet and Ballaharshah were halted at their respective stations.

The authorities stopped the Sampark Kranti and Bhagyanagar superfast express trains at Peddapalli railway station and the Navjeevan superfast at Bizigiri Sharif railway station.

Meanwhile, the South Central Railways cancelled 37 trains between Delhi and Chennai, partially cancelled four trains, and diverted 60 others.

Officials have started repairs and are working to clear the route to resume services without further inconvenience to passengers. They estimate that train services will be restored within 24 hours.

Union minister of state for home affairs and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar contacted railway authorities to inquire about the incident.
