Khammam: BRS MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that the state government had failed to help the people in flood-hit areas in Khammam, Suryapet and Nalgonda districts. He accused the state government failed to respond to the warnings of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and alert people in time

He was speaking after visiting flood-affected Karunagiri, Rajiv Gruha Kalpa, Venkateshwara Nagar and Bokkagadda areas in Khammam and interacted with the people, along with a BRS delegation including former ministers Sabita Indra Reddy, G. Jagadish Reddy, Puvvada Ajay Kumar along with Nama Nageshwar Rao.

Harish Rao said they were moved by the condition of the people in flood-hit areas and people were struggling to get drinking water, milk and groceries, which are generally supplied by the state government during natural calamities.

He claimed that the previous BRS government had made arrangements for announcements about the heavy rains through loudspeakers and alerted the people in time. It helped the people living in low-lying areas to vacate their houses before floodwater submerged their localities. Their government had also extended all required help to the people in flood-affected areas, he added.

“Nine Congress MLAs won from erstwhile Khammam district, but the state government failed to save the lives of nine people stranded in the flood. It could not even send a helicopter for the rescue operation,” he alleged.
