Telangana Govt Plans Overhaul of Higher Education Recruitment
HYDERABAD: Higher education principal secretary N. Sridhar, urged universities to identify their most critical challenges and propose solutions directly to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
A committee was announced to overhaul recruitment processes in alignment with UGC regulations, focusing on transparency and career progression for faculty. The Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University Vice Chancellor will lead this initiative, supported by representatives from Osmania University and Mahatma Gandhi University.
The decision was taken during discussions led by the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) on Friday, where Vice Chancellors from state universities highlighted the crippling impact of delayed recruitments and budgetary constraints on academic growth and student welfare.
Universities were encouraged to explore corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions and MPLAD funds for infrastructure upgrades and research initiatives. TGCHE also announced its plan to revise undergraduate curricula, aligning them with industry demands, and forging partnerships with institutions like IIT Madras and TCS to equip students with emerging skills.
Concerns about infrastructure development, scholarships, and mess dues were also raised, with Vice-Chancellors urging swift interventions to safeguard academic excellence. The TGCHE Newsletter, launched during the meeting, would highlight ongoing initiatives to strengthen the higher education framework.
