Telangana HC Directs Police to Return Kaushik Reddy’s Mobile
Hyderabad: Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court directed the station house officer of Masab Tank police station to return the mobile phone to Huzurabad legislator Padi Kaushik Reddy, which was forcibly taken from him on December 5, 2024. The court also directed the police to issue a notice to the petitioner as per follow the seizure procedure, if the police intends to keep the mobile for the purpose of investigation.
The judge was hearing a petition filed by Kaushik Reddy, aggrieved by the action of the Masab Tank police in taking away his mobile phone, without following any procedure relating to seizure of electronic devices.
Gandra Mohan Rao, a senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, informed the court that the 50 police personnel have forcibly barged into the house of the petitioner at 8 am on December 5, 2024 and created a commotion due to political rivalry. Only for the purpose of harassing the petitioner, the police have dispossessed the petition of his mobile phone and registered an FIR against him.
Palle Nageshwar Rao, the public prosecutor, informed the court that the mobile phone was with FSL as it was sent for analysis as the petitioner is alleged to have conspired against the government.
Further, the public prosecutor informed the court that the petitioner and his followers have behaved in an unruly manner in the police station and further created obstacles for the police officers from performing their duty because of which the police officer had taken over the mobile phone of the petitioner and sent it FSL to retrieve the data.
