Telangana HC Orders Police to Return MLA Kaushik Reddy's Phone
Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the police to return a mobilephone that was seized from BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy on December 6.
Kaushik Reddy had moved court for the recovery of the mobilephone which he alleged was “forcibly confiscated” by Masab Tank station house officer Parshuram Chukkapally without giving an acknowledgment.
The MLA’s counsel informed Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court that 50 police personnel raided Kaushik’s residence at 8 am on December 5. The phone was seized while Kaushik Reddy was being taken to the police station. The case was regarding Kaushik Reddy and his followers storming the Banjara Hills police station and threatened station house officer K.M. Raghavendra.
The public prosecutor argued that the phone was seized due to Kaushik Reddy’s "unruly behaviour" at the station and claimed it would undergo forensic analysis, as he was allegedly conspiring against the state.
The judge found no justification for the seizure of the phone, noting procedural lapses by the police. He directed the phone to be returned and warned of further orders if instructions were not followed. The hearing was adjourned to December 12.
