Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday inaugurated Hyderabad’s second longest flyover at Aramghar and announced the government’s decision to name it after former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

“It’s our responsibility to remember the name of Dr Manmohan Singh, who served the country as the Prime Minister and as the finance minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government,” said Revanth Reddy during a public meeting organised to inaugurate the flyover.

The flyover, which spans four kilometres connecting Aramghar with Zoo Park, was built at the cost of Rs.790 crore as part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP).

Observing that Old City was the original Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said that it was during Congress rule that we built Hyderabad’s largest flyover — P.V. Narsimha Rao Express Highway, and now we have inaugurated the second largest flyover in the city.

“We only compete with ourselves in development. The Old City needs Metro, Musi rejuvenation and sewerage plants. Encroachments have harmed Hyderabad’s beauty. We will hold a meeting with local representatives on the development of the Old City,” the Chief Minister said.

“We will construct a cable bridge — similar to the Durgam Cheruvu bridge — over Mir Alam Tank within two years. I will sanction engineering college, junior and degree colleges and IT companies. We will not go back on providing education and employment facilities.” Revanth Reddy said.

Explaining his development plans for the Old City further, the Chief Minister said: “In a week, I will lay the foundation stone at the Goshamahal Police station for the construction of a new Osmania Hospital.”

He said that since coming to power Congress Government has been addressing issues step by step.

The development of Hyderabad city is the development of Telangana.

For Governance and State Development I will make friendships and if needed I will fight with anyone.

Revanth Reddy stated that the Congress and the MIM are working together for the city’s development, asserting that political battles are only during elections, development is the ongoing priority.

During the Cherlapalli Inauguration Virtual meeting I requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give permission for the Regional Ring Road and the Musi Project, which are pending with the Central government.

“I know every street in the Old City. I travelled through Santoshnagar and Chandrayangutta. Hyderabad is our identity and I will work for its development,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting IT minister D. Sridhar Babu said when people think of Hyderabad, the Old City comes to mind first, followed by Secunderabad and Cyberabad. “This flyover project was taken up as a major task by the Congress government and has successfully completed it.”

He said the Congress government is fully committed to the development of the Old City and set up IT towers and skill development centre in the Old City to create employment opportunities.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi thanked the Chief Minister for approving the issuance of new ration cards and asked to provide Metro rail facility for Charminar and Mir Alam Mandi areas.

MIM floor leader in Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi requested for Rs.500 crore funds to resolve drinking water issues in seven Assembly constituencies in the Old City. He also asked the Chief Minister to sanction the construction of sports ground to support athletes, and requested him to complete the Charminar Pedestrian project. He also requested Revanth Reddy to visit the Old City at least once in every six months to review development progress.
