Hyderabad: A 27-year-old employee working in the health department of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy fell victim to the cybercrime, losing Rs.1.17 lakh after he downloaded a fake application using an APK file. A case was registered with the Cyberabad Cyber Crime police.

According to sources, the victim received a call from an unknown number. During the call, the fraudster told the victim that he is eligible for the PM Health Care Scheme. Though the fraudster sought the details of his credit card, the victim gave the details of his wife’s bank account.

Subsequently, the fraudster asked the victim to download the PM Health Care mobile app using an APK file. Once the app was installed, it siphoned off Rs.1.17 lakh from the bank account of the victim’s wife.

The victim realised that he was duped after he saw six transactions on his phone. He reported the incident to 1930 and the bank accounts were immediately frozen.

The real twist in the tale was that the fraudsters got in touch with the victim and tried to seek a compromise to get his complaint withdrawn.
