Telangana: Parents, Teachers Chip In To Run MPP Schools
Karimnagar: The Mandal Parishad Primary Schools (MPPS) in Kolamaddi village and Raja Nagar village have become examples of how schools can be developed with involvement of parents and teachers in Rajanna Sircilla district.
Parents want their children to get good education and earn skills to excel in their social and professional lives whereas teachers ensure that with their efforts, children develop confidence and efficiencies.
The Raja Nagar school was shut in 2018 when its building was worn out. Later, the school was unofficially merged with Mallaram school. Parents in Raja Nagar send their children to Mallaram facing lots of hardship, financially and otherwise.
In recent transfers, two teachers were allotted to Raja Nagar. Teachers, parents and former MPTC Veera Reddy chipped in to restore full functioning of the school.
School principal L. Raju said with the involvement of parents and teachers, the school’s surroundings were cleaned. Repair was undertaken and arrangements made for electricity and water facilities. Fencing around the school was erected. After this, 25 children of Raja Nagar stopped going to Mallaram. When the issue was brought to the notice of Mandal Education Officer Kisan, he contributed Rs 10,000 to construct toilets, he said.
With no kitchen in the school, mid-day meal is prepared at a private home. If the government includes the school in ‘Amma Adarsha School Committee’, it can allot special funds for completing the pending work, he said.
Government chief whip and Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas promised to provide funds for the development of the school.
Kolamaddi MPP school has two teachers for 92 students. Parents came forward and appointed two unemployed youths as teachers and pay their salaries.
Sarpanch Keshava Rao said on several occasions, parents took the issue to the notice of higher officials for the school’s development.
Sircilla Assembly constituency in-charge K. K. Mahendar Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that 15,000 teacher posts are lying vacant in various government schools in the state. Although the government has recruited some teachers within one year of its ruling, enough teachers were not allotted to Rajanna Sircilla district. The government is planning for another DSC to recruit more teacher, he added.
