Hyderabad: With the Bonalu festival and Muharram coming up in the next month, people are getting increasingly worried over frequent power cuts. However, they preferred to keep mum following an incident in LB Nagar, where power utility staff threatened a user and forced her to delete her complaint on social media.

Vexed with power cuts, a woman near LB Nagar, tweeted about it on `X’. She was shocked to find a lineman turning up at her home and forcing her to delete the tweet.

Satyam, a local leader in LB Nagar, who is aware of this incident, said people are scared after the horrific incident.

“The power utility has not taken any measures to reduce the power cuts even after the power demand declined after the summer. The senior officials, not aware of the ground reality, are putting pressure on the lower staff to ensure that there are no such posts on social media,” he said.

Another woman, a tenant, also faced a similar experience when she raised the issue through her social media account. Her house owners told her that she would have to vacate if she continued to complain about the power cuts.

“The people endured the torture of the BRS for 10 years. Now, the Congress is adding to their sufferings due to their failure to check the officers,” rued Dev Kumar, a resident of Vanasthalipuram. He called upon the electricity department to act on the genuine concerns of people, instead sending the linemen and other staff to the doorstep of people.

When Deccan Chronicle reached out to Musharraf Ali Farooqi, chairman and managing director of TGSPDCL, for his reaction to people's grievances, he refused to comment.
