Hyderabad:Panchayat raj and rural development minister Danasari Seethakka Anasuya on Wednesday said the continuing reluctance of people in many villages in the state to use Mission Bhagiratha water for drinking purposes was a matter of concern and efforts must be made by officials to remove apprehensions among people on this issue.

The minister, who reviewed matters relating to this issue with senior panchayat raj and Mission Bhagiratha (MB) officials during a meeting at the Secretariat, said in many places people were relying on RO water they are purchasing or water drawn from borewells.

She suggested that awareness meetings on MB water be held in all gram panchayats and people should also be told about the long-term problems of consuming untreated borewell water or water they are buying from private businesses selling water purified through reserve osmosis (RO) plants. “The summer season is not very far away and officials must also take up a crash programme to ensure drinking water supply systems are geared up to meet the summer demand,” she said.
