Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the state government is undertaking a comprehensive review of 26 lakh acres of assigned lands distributed to the poor by the earlier Congress governments in the undivided Andhra Pradesh.

In an informal chat with media persons here on Wednesday, Vikramarka said that facilitated by the Dharani portal, a significant portion of these lands changed hands during the BRS regime. He said that the state government would reclaim these lands and redistribute them to the eligible beneficiaries.

Highlighting the Congress’ nationwide resurgence, Vikramarka said that the BJP's influence is on the wane.

He stated that Congress has been delivering on its promises with initiatives like loan waivers, free bus travel for women, and power subsidies.

Vikramarka accused the BRS government of mismanagement in the last 10 years and failing to fulfil its promises, particularly its commitment to allocate three acres of land to Dalits and tribals. He criticised BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for his recent remarks that the Congress government lacked decorum.

“Unlike the BRS, which ruled from palatial bungalows, our government is accessible to the people,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the BRS had plunged Telangana into a financial mess. He reiterated the Congress government's commitment to welfare programmes, noting that free RTC bus travel for women costs the government Rs 400 crore every month, while the free electricity of up to 200 units requires Rs 150 crore every month. He announced that plans for constructing Indiramma houses are underway and the government had credited Rs 18,000 crore to farmers’ accounts within 15 days under its loan waiver scheme, which is a record achievement, he claimed.

Referring to the recent incidents in welfare and residential school hostels, Bhatti Vikramarka assured that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to ensure hygiene and quality food, while the mess charges were recently increased by 40 per cent in order to provide nutritious meals.

Urging the opposition to adopt a constructive role in the upcoming Assembly session, he emphasised the Congress government’s focus on welfare, development, and progressive governance. He pointed out that Rs 10,000 crore had been allocated for Hyderabad’s development.
