IMD warns of cold wave, health issues rise among people
Hyderabad, Nizamabad: Jainad and Bheempur recorded a bone-chilling 6.3° Celsius on Sunday, as winter tightened its grip on the state, even as mercury plunged to single digits on the city outskirts. This is possibly the lowest temperature recorded this season.
BHEL on the outskirts, in Sangareddy district, recorded 9.6°C, and the University of Hyderabad and Serilingampally in Rangareddy district 9.7°C. ACs were off or set to warm temperaturs, those who had them plugged in room warmers, and fans were run at low speed. Street dwellers took solace in bonfires.
Other areas in Adilabad, such as Pochara, Bhoraj, and Tandra, logged minimum temperature from 6.4° to 6.6°C.
Across the state, 13 centres recorded single-digit temperatures from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Adilabad district bore the brunt of the cold wave.
Kohir mandal headquarters in Medak district recorded 6.8°C, Kotagiri mandal headquarters in Nizamabad district saw 7.6°C, Shivampet mandal in Medak district registered 8.0°C, and Akbar-Bhoompally village in Pothareddypet mandal of Siddipet district experienced temperatures of 8.6°C
The severe cold temperatures in the northern districts has led to an increase in health issues among residents, including fever, cold, and cough. A number of individuals have developed skin diseases, prompting visits to hospitals for treatment.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave warning for Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts, predicting that the frigid conditions will persist in the coming days.
Residents of these districts are advised to take necessary precautions, such as wearing warm clothes, avoiding prolonged exposure to cold, and keeping themselves hydrated. The IMD has also advised people to be cautious while driving, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced due to fog.
