TGNAB Trials German Oral Fluid Kit To Detect Drugs
Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB) is conducting trials on a new German-made oral fluid detection device to test drug consumption. This kit could address one of the common concerns during the raids i.e. privacy, particularly while collecting the urine samples of women, despite female officers always accompanying the raiding teams.
“In the future, there will not be any more uncomfortable urine sample tests at the pubs, but simple oral swab kits will do the detection. The Bureau has been struggling with a funds crunch. With the state government recently sanctioning the amount, the Bureau is now in talks with a German company to procure the oral fluid detection,” he informed.
A police source added that these kits are in the trial phase. “The kits will be tested with the help of the consumers currently undergoing rehabilitation. Also, saliva-like fluid will be used to see the detection possibility. A committee comprising of the Bureau, the Drug Control Administration (DCA), prohibition and excise department and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is formed and conducting the trials,” the source revealed.
Meanwhile, the consumers are using a new trick. They are consuming any drug before reaching the pubs to avoid police observation. However, the director added, “The drug exchange has been happening at the parking lots sometimes. So, we are keeping an eye on the isolated parking lots. Additionally, disk jockeys (DJs) are also under the radar as it was suspected that they are also supplying drugs to the party-goers in the pubs.”
