Hyderabad: State-owned organisations have started dropping the BRS-era abbreviation of ‘TS’ to denote Telangana state, and are shifting to the newly approved ‘TG’ nomenclature. The road transport corporation will henceforth be TGSRTC. On Tuesday, the Telangana Building Permission Approval and Self-Certification System (TSbPASS) was renamed TGbPASS.

Officials said the RTC’s signage, stationery, stamps, and letterheads are being updated accordingly. The TGSRTC operates over 9,000 buses across the state and 2,600 in the twin cities. Previously, the corporation was renamed from APSRTC to TSRTC following the state bifurcation.

The TGSRTC transports around 55 lakh passengers daily, about 30 lakh of them being women who travel free of charge.

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle earlier, transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar had explained, “This change reflects the desire and self-respect of the people of Telangana, who strived and sacrificed for the new state. During the agitation, many protestors changed their number plates to TG. Even government ID cards feature TG. Due to the previous BRS government's decision, vehicle registrations were changed to TS. With the formation of the Congress government, the people’s desire to change the suffix TG will be fulfilled.”

Recently, the central government released a gazette notification published by the ministry of road transport and highways, officially changing the state code from TS to TG on vehicle registration plates in Telangana. This change, listed under serial number 29-A in the notification, aims to enhance regulatory clarity and effectiveness.
