Warangal: The closure of the Azam Jahi Mill has rendered over 10,000 workers unemployed and raised serious concerns about land encroachment. Members of various unions allege that land designated for workers' housing has been illegally occupied. They also claim a workers’ union building was recently demolished by a businessman, allegedly with the influence of local representatives, to construct a shopping complex.

Senior citizens, intellectuals, lawyers, and retired employees submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy through district collector Satya Sharada at the collectorate on Wednesday. They were alarmed over the continuous illegal grabbing of government and public lands in Warangal, calling it a threat to democratic rights and public security.

The group demanded transparency regarding Azam Jahi Mill's land, allegedly acquired by organisations such as Ramky, KUDA, and the Housing Board. They also sought disclosure of individuals and officials involved in handing over the workers’ union building to land grabbers. A comprehensive survey of all mill lands was urged to protect the city's resources and reveal details of lands sold to various entities.

Union representatives, including Prof. K. Venkat Narayana, P. Sudhakar, S. Ram Murthy, V. Babu Rao, K. Malla Reddy, P. Upendar Reddy, Mohammad Basu, Ch. Srilatha Reddy, S. Srinivas, and J. Ambaiah, were among those present.
