Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy here on Sunday slammed the BJP and BRS for unnecessarily making false propaganda on the Congress government on procuring paddy from farmers.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, he said it was the Congress government that purchased paddy at a fast pace this time compared to the previous BRS government and the amount was deposited into the account of farmers within three four days after completing the procurement process.

Alleging that the BRS government weakened the Civil Supplies department during its tenure in the last 10 years, Reddy clarified the procurement process was carried out in a hassle-free manner ensuring transparency. The State government came to the rescue of farmers and purchased paddy soaked in rain from them, he said.

In spite of taking a series of pro-farmers measures, the Opposition parties were resorting to false propaganda against the Congress, Reddy said, stating that the previous BRS government pushed the department into Rs.11,000 crore debts and paddy costing over Rs.20,000 crore left without being purchased.

“Paddy worth Rs.200 crore was lifted so far. How can the Opposition say that a Rs.2,000 crore scam took place in it?” he asked. Referring to allegations made by the BJP legislative party floor leader A Maheshwar Reddy against him, he said there was no need for him to buy coveted posts.
