Veerabhadra Swamy Brahmotsavam Begins at Kothakonda
Warangal: Kothakonda in Bheemadevarapally mandal, Hanamkonda district, came alive on Monday as the Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Brahmotsavam, coinciding with Sankranti festivities, began on a grand scale.
Locals trace the temple's origins to the Kakatiya Dynasty, established by Kedari Pandit, grandson of Mallikarjuna Pandit, as per Shaiva Agamas. The temple features a unique collection of divine trees, including Rudraksha, Jammi, Banyan, Neem, Peepal, and Amla, where devotees perform prayers seeking blessings during the festivities.
The Brahmotsavam began with a grand celestial wedding of the presiding deity, Sri Veerabhadra Swamy, after a procession in a specially designed chariot brought the idols from the village. This event took place two days before the main Jatara began on Bhogi.
On Makar Sankranti, devotees participated in the traditional bullock cart procession, showcasing beautifully painted Prabha Bandlu carts around the temple. Rituals such as Nagavello and Pushpa Yagam will be held on January 16, followed by Trishula Snanam on January 17. The Brahmotsavam will conclude on January 18 with Agni Gundalu (fire rituals) and a village tour of the deity.
Devotees from across the state flocked to the temple, following the unique tradition of offering Kora Meesalu to fulfil their wishes. Temple authorities, led by executive officer K. Kishan Rao, ensured smooth arrangements, including drinking water, bathhouses, toilets for women, temporary sheds, medical camps, and firefighting equipment.
Kazipet ACP David Raju supervised security, deploying 600 police personnel and installing CCTV cameras. Help desks, route maps, and flex boards were set up to assist devotees in navigating the temple premises.
