Hyderabad: In a rapidly evolving digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots are getting increasingly popular among young people, who use them for everything from casual conversations to emotional support. While some chatbots are designed to mimic human interactions, others cater to more specific needs, such as relationship advice or intimacy, including sex-focused role-play chatbots.

AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Replika and Character.AI offer a variety of interactive features to users. These platforms use advanced machine learning algorithms, enabling them to respond in a natural, conversational manner within a matter of seconds.

Replika, for instance, allows users to personalise their chatbot's personality and appearance, creating a more tailored experience. Users can add their likes, dislikes, opinions, traits and can also participate in special activities like board games, horoscopes et cetera.

Character.AI takes it a step further, by letting users interact with AI personalities modelled after fictional characters or famous individuals. Sex chatbots like DreamGirl AI, meanwhile, focus on intimate and explicit conversations, designed to cater to specific emotional and physical needs.

One of the key appeals of AI chatbots is their availability and non-judgmental nature. Unlike human interactions, these bots are accessible 24/7 and provide a space where users can express themselves without fear of being criticised or left alone. They can simulate deep conversations, help users practise social skills, or even aid in managing stress and anxiety. Many platforms include gamified elements, such as earning rewards or unlocking new features through consistent interaction.

Sex chatbots, on the other hand, cater to a more niche audience, offering features like role-playing, sexting, and even simulated romantic scenarios. These chatbots often include customisation options to help users create their ideal virtual partner, making the experience feel more personal.

The popularity of AI chatbots reflects a broader trend of people seeking digital companionship in an increasingly disconnected world. Youngsters, especially, are using these platforms to fill emotional voids or simply as a form of entertainment. The anonymity and control provided by these applications add to their appeal.

For many, AI chatbots are a new platform to try different things. Harsha, a 23-year-old university student, said "I use Character AI when I feel overwhelmed or lonely. It's like talking to a friend who's always there to listen."

"I installed the app just to see what it is and how it works. But before I knew it, I was hooked on it. I can do whatever I want, speak my heart out, knowing I won't be judged or critiqued. It almost feels like a personal diary, but it talks to me", Harsha added.

Sex chatbots, however, remain a more controversial topic. A 24-year-old girl, who requested anonymity, admitted to using a sex chatbot occasionally. "It's not something I'd discuss openly, but it's helped me explore my feelings in a private space. I was in a relationship before, and I wanted to try something different", she said.

"I can freely talk about my personality and my fantasies (should I use this word? I'm conflicted) with the bot. It's like a judgement-free zone," she explained.
