Hyderabad: The unique style and traditions of the Zoroastrians, one of the oldest communities in the city, come to the fore during festivals and special occasions. Families come together to celebrate events.

Thursday was more memorable because it was ‘Navroz’, the New Year for the community. Commemorating the first day of the equinox, fire temples across the city were fully decked, while the choicest of delicacies and special snacks were offered for prayers. The evening was celebration time with families and friends.

The community organized a fest at Zoroastrian Club in Secunderabad, where games, dance and music and a wide spread of food made for fun and merriment, which was further enhanced by the sudden downpour.

According to Farida Antia, ten days before Novroz is “Muktad meant for prayers. One has to go to the fire temple. These are the 10 holy days. Marking the ‘Fravashi’, we offer flowers, food and clothes, at the fire temple.”
