VIJAYAWADA: Ahead of the rainy season, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken up a drive to clean up drains, canals and roads, so that rain water can flow out smoothly from the city.

In this regard, VMC commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar inspected the city’s cleaning operations in several key areas, including Bandar Road, Benz Circle, Ramavarappadu, Eluru Road, Old Government Hospital Road, and GS Raju Road.

He reviewed operations at the Excel garbage transfer plant in Ajit Singh Nagar, emphasising the need for efficient waste management.

Pundkar emphasised on the need to continue rigorous sanitation practices during the rainy season, like prompt removal of waste on roads and cleaning of canals, so that water does not stagnate. This would check mosquito breeding and other health hazards, he remarked.
