PBL 3: Jayaram, Michelle Li power Warriors to victory
Li won two crucial points, winning the trump match for Blasters, thereby taking an unassailable 3-0 lead.
New Delhi: North Eastern Warriors' Michelle Li came from the behind to beat K. Gilmour of Bengaluru Blasters 15-7, 14-15, 13-15 in the women's singles match to clinch their Vodafone Premier Badminton League tie at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Friday evening.
Li won two crucial points, winning the trump match for Blasters, thereby taking an unassailable 3-0 lead.
The win kept the Blasters in hunt for the semi-finals. Earlier, Ajay Jayaram came up with a dominant performance against Chong Wei Feng to bring the Warriors back into the tie.
Chong Wei, who came into the match on the back of a win against world no. 15 Wong Wing Ki Vincent , was entrusted with playing the Blasters' trump match against Jayaram.
However, he could not continue his winning momentum, losing 15-8, 15-13.
In the first encounter of the five-match duel, Warriors' Kim Gi Jung and Shin Baek Chol lost 12-15, 15-7, 12-15 to Mathias Boe and Kim Sa Rang in the mixed doubles.
