Asian Junior badminton: Samiya Imad Farooqui is in girls U-15 quarterfinals

Samiya beat Lin Tzu-Yun of Chinese Taipei in straight games with a 21-10, 21-16 scoreline.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s third seeded Samiya Imad Farooqui sailed into the girls Under 15 singles quarterfinals at the Asian Junior badminton Championships being played in Yangon, Myanmar.

Samiya beat Lin Tzu-Yun of Chinese Taipei in straight games with a 21-10, 21-16 scoreline. Earlier, Samiya defeated Thamonwan Nithiittikrai of Thailand with a 21-15, 22-20 verdict.

However, Kavipriya Selvam lost her third round match, against Igri Aprilla Hizkia Putri of Indonesia 9-21, 12-21.

In the Under-17 girls doubles section, Kavipriya teamed up with Keyura Mopati to overpower the Sri Lankan duo of Dilmi Dias and Anurangi Masakorala 21-9, 21-4 in the first round.

The Indian pair took the game in well advance as it started which gave them a comfortable victory.
