Fuzhou: Ace Indian shuttler Prannoy Kumar was on Wednesday stunned by Jonatan Christie of Indonesia on the second day of the ongoing China Open, here at the Haixia Olympic Sports Center.
The 26-year-old suffered a 11-21, 14-21 defeat in the Round of 32 in the men's singles match that lasted 33 minutes.
The Indonesian looked strong right from the opening and raced ahead of Kumar, who fought back hard but his effort was not brawny enough to close the point gap. Eventually, Christie registered a convincing 21-11 to win the first game.
Kumar had an improved showing in the second game, although, he failed to make a comeback and Christie did not waste much time to clinch the set 21-14 and ensure his progression to the next round.
Meanwhile, in the men's doubles event, a tightly-fought encounter saw the Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty prevailing over their Danish counterparts, Mads Conrad-Petersen and Mads Pieler Kolding, 23-21, 24-22 in Round of 32.
