PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth get higher seeding at World Badminton Championship
Rio Olympic silver medalist Sindhu has been seeded fourth, while Srikanth is seeded eighth.
Mumbai: Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth have received highest seeding in the upcoming edition of World Badminton Championship which will be held in Glasgow. The tournament is scheduled to start on August 21, with the final to be played on August 27.
Rio Olympic silver medalist Sindhu has been seeded fourth, while Srikanth is seeded eighth. Srikanth has been seeded just below two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan of China.
Sindhu, on the other hand, has been seeded below her arch-rival and Rio Olympics Gold medalist Carolina Marin.
Japanese shuttler Akane Yamaguchi was given the top seeding after World number one Tai Tzu Ying withdrew from the tournament. South Korea’s Sun Ji Hyun is the second seed. Another Indian shuttler to feature in womens’s category is World number 16 Saina Nehwal who has been seeded 12th for the tournament.
Meanwhile, the other two Indians in the fray are Ajay Jayaram and B Sai Praneeth, who have also received seeding for the tournament. Jayaram has been seeded 13th while Sai Praneeth will be the 15th seed. India's fourth representative will be World number 28 Sameer Verma, who will start as an unseeded player.
In the mixed doubles category, India will be represented by Pranav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy who have been seeded 15th.
