All England Open: PV Sindhu out after loss to top seed
The Hyderabad girl went down in straight games at 14-21, 10-21 to the top seed in a match that lasted 34 minutes.
Birmingham: Olympic silver medallist P. V. Sindhu bowed out of the All England Open badminton championship on Friday, with a quarterfinal loss against Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
The Hyderabad girl went down in straight games at 14-21, 10-21 to the top seed in a match that lasted 34 minutes.
Seeded sixth, Sindhu was not quite in her elements as her rival drilled holes into her defence with regularity in their women’s singles match.
Earlier on Thursday, China’s Olympic champion Chen Long was dumped out of the Open, losing in the second round to Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, the world number 12 from Thailand, 16-21, 19-21.
Seven months and an absence of competition made Chen vulnerable and so did Tanongsak’s sensible strategy of not too frequently attacking an opponent who creates brick-wall mid-court defence and turns it into damaging counter-attack.
