Canada Open Grand Prix: HS Prannoy progresses, Parupalli Kashyap crashes out
It was a day of mixed fortunes for Indian shuttlers as HS Prannoy progressed to the pre-quarters, while Parupalli Kashyap crashed out.
Calgary: India had a day of mixed fortunes at the Canada Open Grand Prix on Wednesday, after HS Prannoy progressed to the pre-quarterfinal stage of the tournament, while Parupalli Kashyap crashed out.
The former had a difficult time against world no 69 Kieran Merrilees of the United Kingdom, winning in three games 21-17, 16-21, 21-15. The match last for one hour and eight minutes.
However, Parupalli Kashyap, who is on a comeback trail from an injury, was not as lucky, as he bowed out to Japanese teenager Jeon Hyeok Jin 10-21, 21-10, 15-21.
HS Prannoy, who has also been struggling with injuries for the last couple of seasons, as suddenly struck a purple patch, defeating giants like Olympic silver and gold medallists Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long, respectively.
He next faces world no 41 Jeon Hyeok Jin of South Korea.
