Asia Team Championships: Korea, Thailand win big

Korea, the second seeds in the men's category, faced no trouble against the Philippines.

Hyderabad: Korea and Thailand annihilated their respective opponents for a 5-0 victory while China scraped through to a 3-2 win against Singapore on the opening day of the Badminton Asia Team Championships being played at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium at Gachibowli on Monday.

Korea, the second seeds in the men’s category, faced no trouble against the Philippines. Dong Keun Lee set the ball rolling with an impressive 21-8, 21-6 victory against Frell Keeyann Gabuelo. Sung Hyun Ko and Baek Cheol Shin then doubled their lead with a 21-13, 21-12 dismantling of the pair of Ronel Estanislao/ Paul Jefferson Vivas. Hyeok Jin Jeon put the result beyond any doubt when he beat Mark Shelley Alcala 23-25, 21-10, 21-6.

Solgyu Choi and Jae Hwan Kim then won the second doubles rubber, defeating Peter Gabriel Magnaye 21-12, 21-13.  Kwang Hee Heo completed the rout by beating Michael Kevin Cudiamat 21-16, 21-9.
