Hyderabad: P.V. Sindhu sailed into the women’s singles quarterfinals while Sameer Verma and B. Sai Praneeth’s campaigns came to a shuddering halt at the Swiss Open Grand Prix at Basel in Switzerland on Thursday.
Sindhu, seeded sixth, scripted a comfortable 21-16, 21-16 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Yu Po Pai and will next meet the winner of the match between Thailand’s second seed Ratchanok Intanon and Bingjiao He of China.
In the men’s section, Praneeth lost to Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou, the second seed, in straight games 19-21, 6-21 while Sameer crashed out after losing to 16th-seeded Thai Tanongsak Saen-somboonsuk 15-21, 19-21.
