Shuttler Erik Meijs dies in crash
Meijs breathed his last in a hospital in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Germany: Erik Meijs, a 26-year-old badminton player from Netherlands’s, died late on Thursday after succumbing to injuries sustained in a car crash, according to a report in German newspaper Bild. Meijs breathed his last in a hospital in Dusseldorf, Germany. Meijs was on his way to the national training centre Mulheim.
Meijs was the fastest rising player from his country and was crowned the Dutch national champion in 2016 and had won tournaments in Slovenia and New Zealand earlier this year. Meijs burst onto the scene after winning silver in the Under-17 Six Nations tournament. He later went on to clinch gold medal in the same tournament as an Under-19 player.
Meijs also became the junior Dutch national champion in 2010 and was a part of Dutch Premier League Cup BC Duinwijck that went on to lift the European Cup in 2011.
