India International Series badminton championship: Lakshya, Tanishq emerge champions

Hyderabad: India’s Lakshya Sen and Tanishq Mamilla took their winning graphs to the top most point after grabbing titles in the men’s and women’s sections respectively while the pair of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla clinched the men’s doubles trophy at the India International Series badminton championship that concluded at the Pullela Gopichand Academy here on Sunday.

In the men’s singles final, fourth seeded Lakshya defeated Yee Han Chong of Malaysia in a thriller that was decided by a 21-15, 17-21, 21-17 scoreline to come out flying colours. In the women’s singles final, Tanishq Mamilla Palli carved out a come-from-behind victory over Shikha Gautam after losing the first game 17-21. In the second game, both the Indian girls were locked in a tough fight, however Tanishq fetched crucial points to take the match into the decider which she won 21-18.

Meanwhile in the men’s doubles final, Indian pair of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla downed Francis Alwin & K. Nandagopal duo 21-19, 21-15 to emerge winners. Also, the Malaysian pair of Tang Jie Chen & Liu Ying Goh took top honours in mixed doubles by defeating Rohan Kapoor & Kuho Garg 21-19, 21-13.

Mixed doubles final: Tang Jie Chen/ Liu Ying Goh (5, MAL) bt Rohan Kapoor/ Kuhoo Garg (Ind, 8) 21-19, 21-13.
