The Bangladesh Cricket Board has written to the Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman seeking security assurance for the conduct of the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin on September 27.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh and if the tournament is moved out, they have weighed up other host options. ICC could opt for a country which will have the same time zone as Bangladesh and India, UAE and Sri Lanka fits in that criteria.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board are hoping to host the tournament.

"We are trying to host the tournament," said Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, BCB's Umpire Committee chairman.

"To be honest there are not too many among us present in the country and on Thursday (August 8) we have sent a letter to the Army Chief regarding assurance about the security of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup as we have only two months in hand," he said.

On Thursday, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus took oath as the head of the interim government following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's departure from the country. Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country following the violent protests over the job quota.
