Mumbai: The ICC World Cup has commenced from May 30, and India is yet to play their first match of the tournament. India is set to open their World Cup 2019 campaign against South Africa on June 5.

While most Indians are anticipating for the match to get underway, Google Duo is strangely pushing notifications to users around the globe with ads from the Indian Cricket Team.

Google Duo often celebrates events or holidays with a special message on the application, targetting users in a specific area.

On the occasion of World Cup 2019, Google Duo wanted to continue the tradition. However, Google Duo seems to have messed up their target audience. Many people from other countries who have no ties to India are receiving messages related to the mega-event.

As per reports by Android Police, users hailing from countries like Canada, Japan Mexico and New Zealand have reported receiving the message. The message features Indian skipper Virat Kohli toasting a cup of coffee and thanking fans for their wishes. Strangely, people from India have not received the message yet. Furthermore, people have mentioned receiving this video message on Android devices.

Google responded quickly on the situation via a forum post and stated that the message was intended for users who had chosen to participate in an upcoming Duo promotion. The video message was supposed to target only a segment of users but it ended up being circulated among a wider audience.
