New Delhi:  Ashish Nehra will draw curtains on his career after the first T20 match against New Zealand at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on Wednesday. The 38-year-old has been a mentor for young bowlers in Team India.

This will be the first and the last time when Nehra will be playing under Virat Kohli. In a recent chat show he said, “Virat Kohli is a different type of youngster, he is a very enthusiastic person, who plays cricket with passion. If you ask him to run and climb a building like a spiderman, he, for a moment, will think that it is possible to do it.”

The left-arm pacer has contributed towards India’s success during crucial matches. Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni Indian had also lauded the work ethics of the veteran fast bowler ever since his comeback into the Indian team in the T20 format.

The history between Nehra and Dhoni goes long way back, when the former skipper had just made his India debut. The team was then captained by Sourav Ganguly. There was one such incident when the bowler lost his cool on Dhoni as India played Pakistan.

The incident occurred in 2005 during the India versus Pakistan ODI in Ahmedabad. The swashbuckling Shahid Afridi was at the crease as Nehra bowled. As Afridi tried to slam Nehra’s delivery, the ball took a healthy edge of Afridi’s bat and flew between the wicketkeeper and the slip fieldsman.

Nehra was so furious at that dropped chance that he had a real go at young Dhoni, under whose captaincy he would play in the future.

Nehra revived the incident during the chat show on Star Sports.

“That was in the heat of the moment. I know you are speaking about Mahendra Singh Dhoni video. That video became more popular when Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached where he is now.”
