Man dies following children's fight in a cricket match
He died during treatment at a private hospital, said a senior police officer.
New Delhi: A man who was grievously injured in an attack following a children’s fight in a cricket match, in Pandav Nagar area of east Delhi, on Thursday succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital, police said.
Deceased Azhar Ali alias Pappu, 44, who worked as an auto driver, was grievously injured when he was attacked by the accused Kallu and his family members on May 30. He died during treatment at a private hospital, said a senior police officer.
Accused Kallu and his brother Munna have been arrested. An FIR was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) at Pandav Nagar police station after attack on Pappu and it has now been converted into murder case after his death, said the officer.
Police said that a group of children had a fight while playing cricket at Sanjay Jheel park in Pandav Nagar area on May 30 morning in which Pappu's 14-year-old son Naeem and Kallu's son Jumman were involved in the fight.
The incident took a serious turn as their family members joined in and Kallu allegedly threatened Pappu of dire consequences, police added.
Kallu and his brothers Munna and Suleman allegedly carrying knives and iron rods reached Pappu's house at Jawahar Muhalla in Shashi Garden and challenged him to come out, the officer said.
Pappu who was having dinner went out and was attacked with a knife allegedly by Kallu, sustaining injuries on his head and abdomen, his uncle Mujid said in police complaint.
When Pappu's family members tried to save him, the attackers allegedly charged on them also and left them with injuries. Mujid, Pappu's son Naeem and his nephew Sabloo were injured in the attack by Kallu and his brothers who fled afterwards, he said.
All the injured were rushed to LBS hospital by the police while Pappu was later shifted to Max hospital after his condition deteriorated where he died around 3 am today, the officer added.
