Silver lining in India's Test series loss! Virat Kohli breaks MS Dhoni's record
India lost the fourth Test against England by 60 runs and eventually gave up the series.
Southampton: India captain Virat Kohli just cannot stop breaking records. Despite his team suffering a 60-run defeat in the fourth Test against England on Sunday, the 29-year-old did what he does best.
Kohli, who scored 58 runs on Sunday, became the first Indian to score 4000 Test runs as the skipper of the team. What’s more, he went past former captain MS Dhoni, who aggregated 3454 runs.
Below Dhoni is Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 3449 runs as the skipper of Team India.
The records does not end there. The talismanic Indian skipper also became the sixth Indian batsman to aggregate 1500 runs against England.
The list is led by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar with 2535 against the current hosts.
Otther Indians to have achieved the feat are Sunil Gavaskar (2483 runs), Rahul Dravid (1950 runs), Gundappa Viswanath (1880 runs) and Dilip Vengsarkar (1589 runs).
With England having sealed the series 3-1, India will play for pride when the two teams travel to London for the fifth and final Test starting on Friday, which eventually concludes the tour.
