Martin Crowe funeral on March 11
The former Kiwi skipper's fight with cancer ended on Thursday.
Mumbai: Martin Crowe's funeral will be held on March 11 at 1 pm as revealed by his manager Louise Henderson.
The 53-year-old cancer-affected former Kiwi skipper died on Thursday. He was surrounded by his family members.
Speaking exclusively from New Zealand, she said: “Crowe's funeral will take place at Auckland's Holy Trinity Cathedral. Jeff Crowe will be present too.”
“There will be few other cricketing personalities who will remain present and pay salute to the departed soul. The body of Crowe has been kept at the funeral home,” she added.
Rev’d Jayson Rhodes, the communications advisor to the Anglican Church said: “At this point we are still planning the funeral details and so have nothing more we can add at this point.”
On the day of Martin's death, his brother Jeff did not retire from his duty as the match referee during the Asia Cup match between India and UAE in Bangladesh.
"There have been instances of Eknath Solkar and Atul Bedade playing matches on the day of their fathers’ death", Sudhir Vaidya, the renowned cricket statistician said.
"Mohammad Azharuddin continued to bat even after coming to know about his grandmother's death in Hyderabad", Vaidya added.
Virat Kohli playing a match at junior level immediately after his father's funeral is a known incident.
