Karachi: The glorious days of Pakistan cricket are over. The Pakistan cricket team dispelled the image once carried by Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and the likes. They lost consecutive matches against India and Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup this missing out on the final.
Their five-wicket loss to Bangladesh saw fans in Pakistan enacting a mock funeral for the cricket team.
The emotional crowd, with a bed covered with a white sheet, went out on the street with slogans. The infuriated mob said they no longer believe in their players.
Even former cricketers Javed Miandad, Mohammad Yousuf, Rashid Latif were critical of Pakistan’s performance and Shahid Afridi’s captaincy.
Veteran pacer Mohammad Sami leaked runs in the 19th over with consecutive no balls which turned the tide for Bangladesh.
The spectators broke television sets in anger after they lost to India last week. Virat Kohli took the match away from the arch-rivals with 49 off 51 balls.
