India chief selector MSK Prasad makes a big statement on out-of-favour Yuvraj Singh
The southpaw, who has had issues clearing the Yo-Yo Test, has not been picked in team after India's tour to West Indies earlier this year.
New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh once again missed out on making a comeback to India’s limited-overs squad as MSK Prasad-led selection committee picked Indian side for the three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka.
The southpaw, who has had issues clearing the Yo-Yo Test, has not been picked in the Indian squad after India’s tour to West Indies earlier this year.
“With Yuvraj Singh, there were also the fitness issues,” said Prasad.
When told that Yuvraj has cleared the Yo-Yo test, Prasad said: “I am happy that he has cleared that fitness test. Since, he has not played cricket for quote some time, let him have a good match time. We will definitely see him in times to come.”
The chairman of selectors also made it clear that Yuvraj was not told to skip Ranji Trophy games and train at NCA to clear the fitness tests.
Earlier on Monday, Yuvraj said that he won’t give up trying at least till ICC World Cup 2019.
"I would like to tell that I am failing. I still fail. I failed the last three fitness tests but yesterday I passed my fitness test. After 17 years I am still failing," said Yuvraj.
"I am not afraid of failure. I have gone through ups and downs. I have seen defeat and that's what's the pillar of success. "To be a successful man, to be a successful person in your life, you need failure and you've got to be defeated. That will make you a stronger person and it will take you to the next level," added India’s 2011 World Cup-winning cricketer.
"I am still playing. I don't know what format I am going to play. But I am pushing everyday as hard as I used to, may be harder than before because I am getting older. And I see myself playing cricket till 2019 and obviously take a call after that," he continued.
"So I still believe in myself. As I said I don't know how many people believe in me but I do believe in myself," Yuvraj concluded.
