Australia’s David Warner has a mixed summer after Ashes, home series vs Pak, NZ

Mumbai: Australia started their World Test Championship campaign brilliantly, the team began their campaign by retaining the coveted the Ashes urn in 2019, after they drew the series 2-2 against their arch-rivals England.

During the series, every member of the Australian squad threw in everything to help Australia deny the ODI World Cup Champions, England, to reclaim the prestigious trophy, after having lost the series 4-0 against the Kangaroos down under during 2017-18.

Coming back to the Australians’ performances during the summer season, every member of the Australian Test squad, barring David Warner, who endured a dismal Ashes series, has been phenomenal. During the recently concluded Ashes Test series, the left-handed opener managed to amass just 95 runs during the five-match series.

During the 2019 Ashes series, the 33-year-old managed to get pass the double digits only twice in his 10 innings. In that series, the Australian opener’s highest score was 23 only. While, the remaining times, Warner’s runs were majorly in the single-digits.  

Before the Ashes, the World Cup Champion averaged 48.2, but after his dismal series, his average dropped to 45.75. During the recently ended Ashes, the 2019 Cricket World Cup’s second highest run-scorer average was a meager 9.5 only.

However, since the Ashes ended, the dashing Australian Opener returned to form with a bang, especially after he smashed a match winning 154 to guide the five-time ODI World Cup Champions to register their first win in the two-match series.

While in the second and final Test match, the aggressive stroke maker scored his first triple century in the Test format and in the process, he broke Australian legend Don Bradman's record of having the highest individual score of 332.

With David Warner’s 333, Australia crushed the Pakistani side by an innings and 48 runs, and hence they sealed the series 2-0. After the series, Warner ended up as the top run-getting for the 2019 World Cup semi-finalists, after having scored 487 runs in the two-match series .

Lastly, in the three-match home series against neighbours, New Zealand, the Tim Paine-led side crushed the Kiwis 3-0 to end their WTC summer campaign.

During the series, David Warner was not up to his best, but the triple ton scorer certainly did ensure that he ended up in the top three run-scorers list for Australia, after having amassed 297 runs.

However, the summer may not have been the best for Warner, but the 33-year-old did made sure that he remained in touch, despite not able to convert his start in to big scores.
