Accelerated auction begins:
Pawan Negi, who was picked in India’s World Twenty20 squad on Friday, toppled Yuvraj Singh’s price of Rs. 7 crore, tantalisingly coming close to Shane Watson’s Rs. 9.5 crore to bag a whopping Rs. 8.5 crore at Indian Premier League’s players’ auction on Saturday in Bengaluru.
Apart from Watson, Negi and Yuvraj, Mohit Sharma Chris Morris stole the show at the auction.
The Australian all-rounder topped the list of costliest players in IPL 2016 players’ auction. But the surprise entry in the list was that of Murugan Ashwin, a leg spinner from Tamil Nadu who earned Rs. 4.5 crore and West Indies’ Carlos Brathwaite who pocketed Rs. 4.2 crore.
While the relatively lesser known cricketers like the West Indian earned big, the likes of Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, Michael Hussey, Mahela Jayawardene, Hashim Amla, Cheteshwar Pujara went unsold.

Alongside these big names, cricketers like Ishant Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Ashish Nehra, youngster Pawan Negi, all-rounder Irfan Pathan, Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood will garner a lot of attention as well.
With Rs.3,30,02,00,000 at their disposal, eight IPL - Indian Premier League teams, including the new entrants The Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants, are set to go berserk in the auction.
