215 players line up for KPL auction
The KPL, in its previous editions, has thrown up some top talent who have gone on to make waves in the national cricket scene.
Bengaluru: The sixth edition of the Karnataka Premier League will take its first step towards the competition when the seven teams enter the fray to build the best possible side from the 215 Karnataka players set to go under the hammer during the auction, on Sunday.
The auction will feature the players divided into two pools. Pool A will feature the 35 marquee players with a minimum bid amount of Rs 50,000 while the remaining will be in Pool B where the minimum bid amount will be Rs 20,000.
Each team will have a maximum purse of Rs 30 lakh, of which Rs 18 lakh will be reserved for Pool A, and the remaining Rs 12 lakh for Pool B players. If there is a surplus after the Pool A auction, the amount can be carried forward for use in the Pool B auction. What makes it interesting is that the franchises will have to bid for a minimum of two and a maximum of five players from Pool A.
Each franchise can have a maximum of 18 players and must have at least two players from their respective catchment areas after the auction, with an additional purse of Rs 20,000 allotted for this purpose.
