Indian under-17 cricketer dies in Sri Lanka after drowning in swimming pool

He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to death and the police is investigating the matter.

Colombo: In a tragic turn of events, an Indian cricketer drowned in a swimming pool and died on Tuesday. The Gujarat-based 12-year-old cricketer was in the Island nation with the under-17 team to participate in a tournament.

According to reports in Sri Lanka media, four members of the squad were in the swimming pool of a hotel in Pamunugama on Tuesday evening. The boy, who reportedly drowned, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to death, reported the Sunday Times.

The report further added that the body of the cricketer to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination and the police is investigating the matter.
